Default vortech supercharger for the '77?

I am wondering if anyone has had clearance issues, or any other issues with installing a vortech supercharger in a C3? I have a fairly fresh 383 that I am considering supercharging............any ideas?

I have seen a yellow vette on this site with the setup... you can use the search to find the tread. I think he had alot of mods to make it work.

Default larry's blow through

nice car larry has , but what a nightmare, 3 blown engines...etc. looks awefully expensive.

Maybe a nice littl $500 nitrous kit with a 100 shot set up is the way to go ? By the time you figure in the initial cost, all the work, and down time , ...well you could fill alot of bottles for that.

Default cracked block

In the nitrous world detonation could and does create enough havoc to crack a block. I'm thinking the same is true with this situation, unless it's a 1000 HP monster ( they never stated power #'s ) then that alone will crack a stock block.

i'll bet it detonated it's self to death ?

NOS is not a bad option.... easy to use... SAFE (when timing and fuel setting are correct)

Trick is people blow up stuff up becasue they get gready... to easy to make power and when you start spraying 250HP on a stock engine it will give up the ghost on you.

As far as turbo.... A guy make a carb turbo kit that has powered a few of the HOTROD FASTEST STREET CAR guys...

I think it is a RAY JAY turbo ???

anybody?

Make a really big motor. My uncles car is pretty mild and it makes 9000 horse. its about 600 CI. You can drive it around town. Its just so loud and it shakes the ground when its running. It makes around 1200 with nitrous. This is in a chevelle.

rajay is a brand..or was, it's garrett/airresearch now, garrett, rajay and rotomaster are pretty much the same nowadays. I'm not 100% sure how it went but back in the days rotomaster was a company that copied rajay turbos and were doing such a great job they bough rajay and then the y were bought out by garrett...or something like that.

Oops I think you ment 900 hp.

Otherwise your uncle needs to drop that power robbing NOS kit.

I've got 1 miiiiilion horsepower

just kidding, but if properly done, a mild 150 shot of nitrous wont damage a thing....... except maybe your spotless driving record.

My idea is to forget about a vortech or paxton (or any other) centrifugal supercharger.

Unless you're looking exclusively at high-speed events (salt-racing or high-speed events like the Silver-State Classic), the centrifugal supercharger is a loser.

I would suggest looking carefully at this thread:

What have you been reading? The procharger supercharger systems put out astonishing power at all rpms above 3000. If your building a high performance machine ,below 3000 wont matter anyway. I have a 632 with a 14-71 fully built to the limits of cubic inches and roots technology which puts out close to 1700 real hp without nos assist.A smaller cubic inch 548 with f3r procharger and electronic fuel injection has put out in excess of 2100 hp.My cubic inches are too much for the volume of air the prochargers can utilize ,anything under app 565 can make huge power and small blocks can really take advantage of them.I agree the roots is most sexy but you really need to step up to a 14-71 to compete with most procharger systems. I have a camaro 427 sb with f1r procharger and 22lbs of boost that hit 900 plus rear wheel hp and has hit mid 9s in a 3700 lb car at 151mph.Also a 2002 zo6 with f1r that hit 720 rear wheel hp on a stock motor.Runs 10.1 at 134mph on street tires. Also kills most sport bikes from 30 mph on.Lets face it roots are cool and old school and I love the looks but the newer technology is just more powerful unless your adding very large cubes and 14-71 to the mix. Then again you can make more power with less cubes and a procharger.I wont trade what I have cause It makes more power than my chassis can harness anyway ,but a procharger equipped vehicle can hold its own on many well built cars.

I wrote a moderately-detailed comparison, at the link above, comparing and contrasting positive-displacement, belt-driven and exhaust-driven centrifugal compressors. Bottom line: for REAL-WORLD use (that is, OFF of the race-track), a belt-driven centrifugal supercharger is a loser.

It's not something I read in a magazine.... It's PHYSICS.
