Great response on this - thanks a lot, guys! I'm going tire shopping this afternoon and I'm going with the majority opinion and put the RWL's out. MotorHead's right, if I decide I don't like it at some point, I can always turn them around. I'm also gonna blast and paint the wheels while the tires are off. Adding to the fun is the great Texas weather this time of year - it's supposed to be about 100 this afternoon, so that means probably 110-120 in my garage (flat roof with no insulation) - OH BOY! :cry
I have the same color car, 70 LT-1, with the BFGTA RWLs, like the look either way though. I need to come by next time I am in Dallas and check your car out.
LT1 - just drop me an e-mail next time you're coming this way and we'll get together.
I got a decent deal from Firestone for 4 Firehawks for $355 mounted and balanced. They are dismounting the old tires right now and I'm going to blast and paint the wheels before the new ones go on. I also decided to overhaul the parking brakes while I'm at it (what fun!). I noticed Zip has their complete SS kit on sale now for $209 (incl. all cables, pulley, shoes, etc.). This is an even better deal than the forum discount.
How about 3/8" white striped tires? I am running Goodyear Eagle GA 225/70/R15 and I like the way they look......kind of stock
You are not alone! I am seriously considering whitewalls for my 68 bigblock. How do you like the Eagle GA s? They are a touring tire, right? I have a little piece of tank sticker that shows my car originally came with whitestripe tires, so that' s little extra reason to go that way. I love redlines on a blue car, but I am not going to buy repro tires. MJ
