anyone have car chemistry inserts. my stock sidepipes are only 1 7/8 on the inlet. would like to go to a three inch pipe, possibly with inserts insted of mufflers. loud is good ,but sound is important.. would they sound like factory sidepipes. oh ,these are going under factory sidepipe covers...
Surveyor - I've been trying to find a source for the black painted Hooker headers with the outside pipes for my '71 but no luck. Do you know a source on the internet or through a catalog? What is the price for them?
Thanks.

I use them, but I have a full exhaust system with Borla mufflers at the back. As a whole system I am pleased with it, but for your application I have no idea how they would sound. Hopefully somebody here has used them in sidepipes.
Went with Hooker Side Mounts 4" dia. with glass pack inserts they are the best.
I wouldn't say the best....they are livable at best. I have Hookers and had the glasspacks, they choked up my old 8.5:1 smog headed 350, I couldn't imagine having them on my 383. The headers are great, the mufflers leave a lot to be desired. I built my own mufflers for the headers.
There are mufflers called Spiral Turbo Baffles which have been found to be much better than the glasspacks.
Jeg's or Summit will be cheaper than any Vette catalog. I have the Hookers with the glass pack inserts, but I'm thinking of going the spiral insert route. Doing the research now.
if you have fabrication ability look at the Auger mufflers sold by www.speedwaymotors.com They are $15 each and I used 3 per side. They are almost too quiet, quieter than the stock mufflers, and this is with a 450hp smallblock 427.
They flow really well too, I picked up abour 4" of vacuum when I switched from the stock mufflers
