I have the opportunity to purchase a tilt/tele steering column for my 69 vert. At present it has a standard column. (Converted to RHD) Is this a straight forward swap.
Have just recently completed respray and freshen up of interior. Will post pics soon.
What year T&T? As long as your current column bolts in with your right hand drive, a 1969 through 1977 T&T steering column should fit in its place. Make sure that the T&T comes with the horn button, telescope lock, tilt and turn signal levers for it. The 1978 through 1982 T&T columns have to be modified slightly in order to fit.
Its from a 69-74. Does not come with a horn cap or ignition switch. Will my units fit? Also does the tele give more room than the standard column.
I converted my '69 to a tilt/tele column. Since I'm 6'3", it was definately an improvement. I used to hit my left knee on the steering wheel when working the clutch.
By extending the column all the way out and tilting it up a little, driving is now much more comfortable.
You will not be able to use the switch from your standard steering column. The standard column switch operates in the opposite direction from a tilt or T&T column switch.
However, any ignition switch from a tilt or a T&T steering column will work on your new steering column. You will have to twist your body harness 180 degrees in order to make it snap into the tilt or T&T switch.
The horn cap is the same for all T&T columns 1969 through 1975.
