On my '75, I have a couple of things that quit working that used to work not too long ago:
1) The A/C blower motor only works on high speed. I tried changing the relay on the right firewall, but that did not help. Other than possibly the switch itself being bad, is there anything else I should look at?
2) The wipers stopped working and the fuse is good. The plugs are secure into the back of the motor. I think there might be a relay underneath the console, but I wanted to be sure before removing the console pieces.
Neither of these are major problems for me, but I would like to try and look into them since they are new problems. Thanks a lot!
I did a little more investigating and the wiper motor "clicks" when I turn on the switch. It sounds like the motor is bad or might be stuck. I have a parts car that I ought to try using the motor from.
Did both of these problems show up at the same time? It sounds to me like you could have a bad ground for the relays. If you don't have a wiring diagram for your car I would buy one. Trace both of the circuits and look for things they may have in common.
I bought a book a few months ago from Amazon that help me with some electrical problems. Its in the garage but I think it was called Automotive Electrical Handbook and it is published by Haynes or Chiltons I don't remember which. It will walk you thru basic auto electrical theory and troubleshooting.
Hey Rob,
If your wiper motor "clicks" when you turn it on try running a jumper wire from the metal part of the wiper motor body to the air cleaner bolt. See if this will cycle the motor. If it does you have an open ground.
Good luck,
Greg

I would guess that the blower only working in the high position could be that the resistor used to provide lower speeds has burnt out. I've never had a reason to actually remove the one in my vette, but these vintage cars have a wire wound resistor that is mounted somewhere in the airflow ducts/heater box to provide airflow over the resistor to cool it and keep it from burning out. The resistor is simply a brute force way of dropping the voltage to the blower motor and they are a common point of failure if you lose the lower speeds of your blower motor.
Well, I found a book with step by step instructions on diagnosing wiper problems. My ground, switch and fuse are all good. When I was playing with the 3 prong plug that goes into the wiper motor, my wipers cycled one time and that one time only. I since haven't been able to reproduce it. Now I still just hear a "click" inside the motor when I move the switch. Maybe there's a bad electrical connection inside the motor. I think I will open it up and check inside. If I find the problem, I'll let you guys know. As far as the fan speed problem, I'll look for that resistor in the A/C ducts. Does anyone know where in the ducts it might be? Thanks again.
