Default Demon Flooding

Got my 454 running this weekend after two years of downtime..ran good for cam break in and then the back barrel of the Mighty Demon 750 started gushing fuel when I tried to restart it. Sight glass was at 1/2 while it ran the first time - was set to Lars specs initially. I'm running a stock fuel pump at 5 psi and a new fuel filter. I'm guessing dirt on the float needle? Can I take the needle out from the top or do I need to pull the back bowl off the carb ?

Carb was used and had been sitting for about a year....

It could be one of two things...1 dirt in the needle or a stuck float bowl (especially common if th ecarb ha sat for a while after being used)

The needle and seat can be taken out with carb on the car (just dont have it running). Just unscrew the lock screw and undo the nut. I had 2 of my Six Shooters with the same issue (looked like little pieces of aluminum stuck between the needle and seat).

If that doesnt fix it, then you may want to check the floats.

Hvy -
As noted above, it's likely that you just caught a piece of crap in the needle/seat. Pull it out the top, blow it out, and clean it up.

However, I've run into several BG float bowl with porous castings. This causes fuel to seep into the bowl even though the needle/seat is operating correctly, causing the problem you describe. If cleaning up the needle/seat assembly doesn't do the trick, you might want to check for casting leaks...

Fixed, all sorts of black crud in the bowl. Cleaned out and reset the float.....no more flooding. Now I have another post for a tuning question.......never ends

Lars, you forgot mine. Damaged O-ring on the needle/seat, basically the same effect as a porous casting. Not likely if you haven't removed the needle/seat though unless it dried out and cracked. Glad you fixed yours!
