Default Disconnecting Firewall wire harness plug

I suspect that this plug (located on the driver side firewall, has about 20 wires on it, sort of under the brake vacuum) is corroded and is in need of a good cleaning after all these years. I would like to take it off and clean the contacts.

I can see one hex screw in the center of the harness plug. Are there any other attachments? Once I have removed that screw, are there any secret tricks on ensuring it all comes out in one piece? The last thing I want is break it because I missed an attachment of some sort

Thanks.

That's the back of the fusebox, remove the screw and it will come out in one piece, be sure to seal the edges when reinstalling it

There are also two Philips head screws on the passenger compartment side.

Those hold the inner fusebox to the firewall, no need to remove those if you only want to remove the engine side

I didn't realize that. Good to know.

Unless you know you've got a wiring issue/problem, don't mess with it. This is one area that need not be touched for 'preventive' work.

Very timely question. I removed the bolt, but it still didn't budge. I took the Brake Booster out last night and I hope to see exactly what's holding it tonight. I suspect there night be old sealer that needs to be broken loose.

It's a very tight and snug fit (which it should be to prevent water getting in) You can pry on it VERY CAREFULLY with a screw driver but ONLY ON THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR. Once disconnected..the two harnesses can be seperated by unhooking the top and bottom clips...then sliding them (sideways) apart. When installing....use plenty of dielectric grease on the contacts.
