I found a trick little peice while gathering all my parts to convert to a solid roller that some of you might be interested in. It's a 2 peice aluminum timing cover from Cloyes part #9-221 that has an adjustible roller button built into the cover.
Setting endplay is just too simple with this cover. To set endplay install the cover, remove the locking screw over the buttom, tighten the set screw to zero lash, and replace the locking screw. The thermal expansion of the aluminum while running will give the recommended .005"-.010" endplay. Too easy.
Thought I would share this. Setting endplay on a smallblock chevy can be a real chore while the cover is in place.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
I set mine to .006" took me half a day, every time I locked the button it would lock in a different position and I had to reset the endplay each time. I am not sure about that thermal expansion thing, I didn't do it the way you did, never said anything about that in the insructions from CLoyes, anyway my cam and lifters are fine after 10,000 mies.
I had to machine the Cloyes cover adjustable roller button to clear my billet timing set from Crane cams. The cover also had clearance problems with my high flow Stewart pump and i ended up machining the Cloyes cover .040 and the water pumps rear bolt heads down.
Your a lucky person to have it go together so nice.
My new 427 - I elected to not even use a cam button with a true two piece cover.
