I sold my C5 because I commute 150 miles a day. Couldn't stand (afford) to put that many miles on that type of car. I am looking at buying a c3 for a driver. I've also owned a 76, 79, and 82 previously. The 82 got great gas mileage and gave me no trouble but only has a couple hundred horses. 79 was fine but lousey gas mileage. The 76 had all kinds of cooling problems in Houston. Can the 82s be reasonably upgraded near 300 HP without going radical, like super charger? Does the drive train stand up? Will the fuel injection system give me headaches as they are old technology and scarce? I thought about the C4 as a better performance choice but I just don't like the looks of the C4. Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated. I see a lot of C4s listed at a price that will buy a C5. Are they selling at these prices or is that mostly people hoping for a better price but will most likely settle for the 12K range I see others offered at? Thanks in advance.
You can always buy an older C3 and put an overdrive tranny in it. Good HP , good mileage and no cooling problems. I have the OD setup in my 80 and love it.
I drive in San Antonio with a/c blasting and don't overheat. In my opinion C4's are ugly.

I did not like c4's looks as well. I picked a 1990 convertible for my wifes daily driver, $6500.00/ 65,000 miles, needs paint only. It runs great fairly easy to work on and gets great gas milage. My buddy just got a 88, vert for 5500 and has been fixing it up and loves it. The looks will actually grow on you, good gas milage, and there are good deals if you are patient.
C3s are my personal choice, but there's nothing wrong with C4s. I like the looks of the C5s right up to the trailing edge of the doors, but I have never been able to adjust to the rear quarters on those cars. Just the same, every time I see a C6, I like the C5s that much more.

How difficult is putting in an overdrive tranny? When the stock one goes out would a tranny shop be able to replace it or would I have to do the conversion at home with a torch? Im rebuilding a 79 bronco with a 460 stuffed in it and don't really want a project car but one I can use for a daily driver. Sounds like the C4 may be the best option. New Ulm is between Austin and Houston, just south of Brenham.
