Default Yet another Diff. question -

I picked up a nice 3:55 rear for my '76 at Carlisle, and am getting around to doing the swap. I realize now that it has the earlier pinion yoke, that takes the smaller u-joint. The car sees regular duty at the dragstrip (about 360hp at the flywheel, 700R4, BFG Drag Radials) and I did not want to go with a conversion u-joint. Can I swap the yoke without having the rear set up again. (In other words, will pinion depth remain the same based on the shims installed?)

Thanks

Yes. No need to reset up the pinion depth.

Thanks a lot. Great news. So, do I just hit that nut with an impact gun, or is there a torque spec. for it. I'm worried about that crush-collar business, as I haven't worked on one of these yet.

OK, I get it. Thanks again guys. Now I can keep working on her over the weekend. (In between the "honey-do's, of course. )

I tried to change the small yoke to a large yoke on mine, but the pinion shaft was different spline and size. Had to go with a conversion u-joint.
