454 big block

454 big block
hey fellas my project is about to begin, i want to drop a 454 in it and i want to buy just a short block. I have a place in dallas that has them for about 600 bucks, is that right or what should i be looking to spend, also does anyone have any suggestions of where to buy my short block?

600 is way too low for a decent 454 short block. must be a recycled cast crank, used cast pistons (or way over-bored past the block's lifetime), 2-bolt mains, 3/8 rods, etc. must be the tired, worn-out motor was just slapped together with a ring job to bring it's last salvage revenue.
