Can any one tell me the location of the light for the heater control, in my 1979 Corvette. I can not find any reference to in my shop manual. Also what number it is. Thanks Gary B.

The heater control in the consol? There is a harness and an a bulb which plugs into the a raised metal bracket by the control. You need to remove the consol side panel to get at it.

it shines down from the top of the guage bezel and is accessed by pulling the bezel out (at least enough to access the top of teh bezel).

Thats not it on a 79 (or at least my 79 L-82).

Its actually a light that shines DOWN onto your heat-A/C control. The light is in a slot at the very top of your gauge cluster bezel. Right in front of the A/C vents...the guagecluster bezel has to be slid away from the dash to swap this bulb believe it or not.
Slide the gauge bezel away from dash, reach at the very top of the bezel and you will find a black bulb housing with the bulb in it...this is a "spot light" type of bulb...has very thick glass. #GE558

Read this thread to see the difference in bulbs and their sockets. Notice the light bulb in the black socket??.... thats the heater-A/C light bulb from my car..its black and toasted.

The heater-A/C light is in a long slim piece of plastic right in front of the a/C vents...the spot light shines thru the plastic, down, and onto your control plate...most people have no clue where the light comes from.
Check the pics of my 79....thats the light and blub in question shown from the back of my bezel.

Good luck,
Jim

A standard bulb will fit in there but will never give the proper light. The Corvette venders have the special bulb - it has a dimple in the end to focus light, like a spotlight.

I just finished removing the console from my car and the black bulb hold is missing. The lense assemble is still present. Does any one know where I can purchase one. Thanks Gary B.

Ok...

Read this Thread and tell me which part you need.

If its the bulb, the socket or both....you will find the bulb numbers in that thread too.

I got the sockets at a junk-yard (cheap)..the first guy gave me a couple of free sockets(your size), but I needed the smallest. Went to another JY and got 5 small ones for $5.

I found the bulbs online (didnt buy any though) and at the local electrical supply...many of them had the exact bulbs. Not Home Depot or Lowes Its where they sell home lighting, ceiling fans, home wiring stuff, breaker boxes, lamps, ect...I did fing one mom and pop parts house that sold them too (the bulbs).

I have extra's if you cannot locate any.
