Default Oil pan question

I met with my machinist the other day to discuss options for rebuilding my 350 and he proposed several options I had not considered. First, he has suggested that I consider powder coating the block , heads, intake, etc. He has a guy who has started doing blocks and thought for long term durability that this is a no brainer. Has anyone here done this, and if so, are you happy with the results?

Also, he has suggested that I put in a 7-quart oil pan (he showed me one that he had in the shop but I don't know the manufacturer). I was going to replace the old pan anyway, but had been planning on using a correct pan out of one of the catalogs. Since we are doing a complete rebuild of the engine (long story) his feeling is that the new engine will benefit from the additional oil capacity.

Having gone to great lengths to maintain the correct appearance of a 69 L-46 block, I am wondering if the paint will look right, and if I really need the 7-quart pan.

I like the larger oil pan ... just ensure what's planned will fit you car's steering gear/exhaust and not extend lower creating ground clearance issues.

As for the powder-coater/builder suggesting they experiment with the vette guy's motor ... I dunno. I'd like to know if there's a powder that's guaranteed to match OE color. Maybe I'd be the guinea pig for the experiment IF ... IF there was no fee for participating in their experiment.

FYI ... Local commercial powder-coater uses an acid-water etching wash just prior to powder (they wash regardless if it's a truckload of fan blades or a new circle track chassis) ... I'm real impressed w/ their chassis jobs ... but how well's that gonna work with a block? ... at what point of build? ... just dunno?

Default good points

regarding the color match. I already asked about that. Still waiting for a reply.

When he brought up the pan idea, I did ask if that was guaranteed to fit my application. He said he would verify fir before going that route. Although I only glanced at the pan in the shop, I'd almost say it was shallower than stock, but I didn't have the stock pan to compare it with.

Thanks

I went with a 1 Qt. larger than stock pan - should be 6 Qts. instead of 5. Got it from a place in the midwest, allegedly sells a lot of racer parts. It looks stock but has a wiper and baffle. Fit was ok, but had to modify (beat on it) because of the stroker.

Let me know if you want the name, I will have to look it up.

BTW, it was relatively cheap, less than $80 (or maybe < $60, I don't remember) but is unpainted and probably from our Oriential friends.
