Default Seat belt light problem

I'm restoring a 78 SA and can't seem to find any info on why the seat belt light stays on constantly despite being buckled. The buzzer shuts off fine, but the light stays on. I've seen lots of these questions asked in the archives but not really any definitive answers as to the cause. Is it the warning buzzer or is there a separate timer that shuts the light off? anyone...anyone..?

Check the passenger seat. My '73 has a sensor under it for the seat belt light, maybe yours shorting to ground.

Thanks for the reply, but GM removed those pass. seat sensors in the mid 70's because they were such a nuisance.

I have the same problem with my 76. I think my service manual trouble shooting guide says it is a timer under the dash. I will just ignore the light until I have to get under the dash for something else.

Remove the light bulb in the dash.
Worked for me.
