Default LT1 to C3: Which headers?

Well the car is in the body shop, and my closet is full of suspension parts...This board has been a HUGE help choosing the right parts for my buildup: Gas tank, radiator, fuel pump, etc etc. I now need to order a set of headers: THe motor is a 97 LT1 and the car is a 70 coupe, which headers do you conversion guys recommend? I'm figuring a long tube that will fit the C3 and have the correct exhaust ports for the LT1 heads.

Thanks in advance all.

LT1 (Gen II) engines have the exhaust port in the same location as the original small blocks. Any small block headers for Corvettes should work but you will probably have to have a bung for the O2 sensor installed.

Hooker, obviously, makes some excellent headers that make great power. If you are leaving the LT1 relatively stock, Hedman makes a decent, cheaper header with D-port shaped flanges that will match the LT1 head exhaust port. 1 5/8" primaries are fine up to around 400 HP. Over that and you should have 1 3/4" tubes. Try to select a header that has enough collector length for installing a weld-on oxygen sensor bung. That way, if you ever develop a tiny exhaust leak at the collector flange it will be less likely to affect oxygen sensor readings and 'upset' the computer. Good luck.

Oh, by the way, if you are using the GMPP LT1 4 barrel carb'd intake with a conventional distributor, thus eliminating the fuel injection/computer control, you won't need any oxygen sensors. If not, you'll want to get 2 new Bosch 'heated' (3 wire) oxygen sensors.

Default Headers

I used Sanderson CC1 center dump/short headers. They are non block hugger and are the same dimension as GM Ram Horn manifolds.
