hi, i'm uprating my '77 driveline...i'm swapping in a new 4 speed super t-10 trans and i will change the driveshaft too, should i wait to make the measurements of the driveshaft after i change the trans or could i take them now with the old t-10 trans before i take it out? also, i've contacted tom's for uprating the rear axle but it's a week and i never had a reply, maybe they're too busy...is there anybody else working at tom's level but a little quicker on the attention to customers? thanks a lot/Giu

I would wait until the swap is done. Most drive shaft companies give one day service. Wait until the transmission is in, take a careful measurement and drop the shaft off. I had them upgrade to 3 inch when I did mine. If the tailstock is anywhere near the center of the tunnel you can get away with 3 inch
My complete no shaft with new parts was $240CDN
so, norval, this means that i will have to bolt new trans and drop old shaft in too, take the measures and then swap the new driveshaft back in? the driveline is not perfectly centered in the tunnel but maybe half inch larger will fit alright, the best solution would be to find a much stronger chromoly 2.5'' driveshaft, but i guess this is far from reality anyway...thanks norval

You install the driveshaft after the motor and trany are installed. I have a tremec and had no problems putting the shaft in after the transmission was installed. Even with a normal yoke all you do is polish the yoke cups with a flapper wheel and electric drill until the caps press in with only hand pressure.
This makes take it apart and putting it together a simple process.
All my universal are finger tight only and I have never blown a universal.
