Default Fuel injection options?

Considering fuel injection on my L48. How difficult would it be to go down to pick-n-pull and grab the fuel injection components, then install them? I'm kinda tired of 8mpg and not knowing how to tune the q-jet very well. What would I need to get, about how much would it cost, what cars would have the right parts, and how would I install it? (website?)

Thanks guys!

www.diy-efi.org/gmecm - read the message archives and check out the links. That should give you ideas on how to find other pages to help.

If you do TPI, I hear it runs out of breath around 5k RPMs... Something to consider.

LOL like I ever get up that high... I don't think that I've ever gotten over 4500. TPI isn't cheap though is it. How much power would I be looking at from say, a stock late 80's early 90's camaro/firebird EFI setup on my L48? Milage? How hard would that be to do?

From what I've read, not terribly difficult... It seems the toughest part is getting the computer dialed in. I'd recommend looking at MEGASQUIRT. I built the computer already, having to fab a lot of stuff from scratch for my application.... But whether you do a TPI or even a throttle-body injection, the cost will be much lower than a comparable aftermarket kit, you get the ability to tune on-the-fly, and the support is amazing.

Plus, since you live in Sunnyvale, there's enough junkyards around (not to mention Ebay) where you can get the vast majority of parts for CHEAP...

Look forward to hearing what you do, and HOW it goes. If you want, PM me- I have local contacts that might have some goodies to help you.

It would cost less to get the carb running correctly. If the carb is tuned right and you're still getting 8 MPG fuel injection isn't going to fix it. Get Doug Roe's Qjet book and learn how it works. Get the timing setup right and put a good exhaust on it and it will still cost less in money and aggravation than a fuel injection conversion.

See this post from yesterday. You can do TPI for under $1000, under $500 if you make the harness and figure out how do burn a PROM.

I have 2 and I like them very well.

Gosh if you don't rev past 4K - 4500 rpm, you're missing the fun of a smallblock!

If you want to rev past 5000 rpm, modify an LT-1 intake to work with the TPI computer. www.lt1intake.com
