Default Oil temp sensor

I am thinking about installing an oil temp gauge in my car.
Where is the sending unit installed and is it worth the trouble of installing it??

The oil temp sensor is typically installed in a port directly above the oil filter mounting pad, on the drivers side of the block. The block should already be drilled/tapped for it, and plugged with a pipe plug. If not you could use the port located at the front of the block, beneath the intake manifold. The probably a square headed pipe plug in it. It's not as good of a lcation as the one over the filter, but it's an option.

I think it's worth it.

I do not believe that a GM unit was available for the 1969. They came out in 1981-82 to replace the clock. The clock was then in the radio. High-tech! As Monty said, you can go for the oil filter location and move the oil pressure sensor. I was informed that the 1981-82 approach was to move it to the back of the block near the distributor. There is a square plug there.

This is the pressure sensor above the oil filter.

yep, oil temp sensor is located above oil filter, and oil pressure gauge is located top rear lifter valley area of engine block. Oil temp runs hotter than coolant after my engine rebuild of new main & rod bearings, camshaft, valve springs, rocker arms, push rods, and milled heads. Runs about 200 degrees now, and warmer if you really run it hard.
