Default 200-4R swap, Need advice

I know a few of you have done this swap and I think I will do it also. Cany anyone give me a detail of all that is involved with this swap from a TH400. Does driveshaft have to be cut? What about the shifter cable? What torque converter do I want to run behind a 383?
What has to be done with the cross member?
Any pic's ?

Thanks in advance.

The motor will be running a 750 vac secondary Holley carb, 69 Z28. 472 dual plane intake, 041X 64cc iron heads (old School) 1.6 stainless roller rockers, KB-135 pistons, 9.7/1, zero deck heighton the block. Not certain on the cam yet but it will be a flat tappet solid lift. HEI Ignition.

This will be for street use only, unless the rice starts to boil!

Thanks in advance.

i did with the 700r4 and i'm sure there is some similariites....heres from my 700r4 build

1. you will need a TV cable and bracket for it at the carb
2. you will need a different detent for the console shifter....this will come in a kit for about $100 and has all the brackets you need. the shifter cable does not get replaced
3. if you have a lock up torque converter you will need a relay kit to disengage lock up when you hit your brakes

I'm in the process of replacing my TH350 with a Bowtie 2004R. Here's the link to what I've done so far. Give Bowtie a call and ask for Melisa. She can give you all the info you'll need for replacing your 700R4.

I made a post on this when I did it, but seems to be lost in the archives somewhere.

This is direct fit; no cutting, no welding. The driveshaft will fit fine, but you might have to go to different u-joints to fit the yokes that are available, and you'll need a new yoke. The shifter cable will work, but you'll want to get the kit from BTO. It contains the shifter bracket; the original won't work. You'll need a TV cable to run this transmission; BTO sells this also, but for some quadrajets (like mine) the kit won't work and you'll have to go universal fit. The dipstick that BTO sells doesn't work that well, look into Lokar's braided steel dipstick. For TC, depends on what kind of numbers your 383 puts out. For high performance, I think you're supposed to go with a 9" HD model. Talk to GrandSportC3 who is probably running a similar engine to yours. The crossmember should bolt up just fine without mods.
