Default Having a custom spring made

I was in Florida this week and stopped into Vette Brakes as I was near them. I was talking to them about my rear spring situation. He laughed and said all you C3 guys running wide rims and tires want the same thing. They were very helpful and he brought out about 5 different springs. None of which he nor I thought would be just right. We settled on a 1 inch shorter on both sides and about 400 lb spring. Without the sway bar he said this should be perfect for autoX and some drag racing. They also have 3 molds for fiberglass springs. One for the front transverse spring and 2 for the rear. One with more arch than the other. He thought the one for the front transverse spring would work the best. It has the least amount of arch to lower the car some and would fit the situaton better. They are making it up this coming week and I should have it late this week or next week.

400lbs? Does that mean you will not be running a rear sway bar? I've been driving my 360lb spring with no sway bar for the past couple of weeks. I definitely miss it. I gotta figure a way to make a sway bar that will fit. I might start with a tubular speedway bar like Norval did.

I am going to run without it for now. They assured me at VB with the heavier rear spring it would handle just as good as the setup I am running now. (330lb spring with rear bar)

Bee Jay, why did you take your rear swap bar off?, was it because of rim/tire clearance issues? If so what size rim/tire were you running that made you take the sway off?

I told him my current setup of 550 front coils and a 1.125 front bar. He seemed to think that it was a good setup like this using the 400lb rear spring. It will be a little while before I can test it all out.

Are you talking fiber or steel and how much? I was just looking at the cost of fiber and it's only $120 more for the dual mount. Did VB try to talk you into one of those?

I'm going away from auto tranny and i'm thinking that I might try a different rear spring. Right now I have the equivolent of a 420# steel.

Are they just cutting a normal fiberglass spring and shortening it?? With a steel spring it is simple to shorten it and then play with the number of leaves.

Does double offset mean the spring mount is moved in?
I ran a short spring and stock spring mounts and it puts the mounting bolt at a bad angle.

If you were talking to me. All I have is some heavy duty parts including the HD swing arms. I have VB Smart struts, custom Steel spring with spaced Down from the frame 3/4 sway with end link adjustments.

I took the rear sway bar off when I was trying to make my rear Z06 wheels (18x10.5) fit. Instead, I bought two 18x9.5 Z06 style wheels and mounted 275/40-18s. I have room for the sway bar with this setup. But I eventually want to put the 18x10.5s on with 295/35-18s. I think this will work with a modified sway bar and stock trailing arms. When I test mount, the sway bar is the problem, not the trailing arm or frame. I hope to put the sway bar back on this weekend. Pictures here:

I have the stock trailing arms in the car right now. They are making the spring for me right now. It is a shorter spring made in one of their molds that does not have a lot of arch. This should lower the car slightly.

It is a fiberglass spring and just the spring only for 270.
