Advice needed for a novice. I recently purchased a 72 and want to check to see where the timing is set. Any tips/tricks to do this with HEI ignition? I read the Lars faq about this but it says his procedure will not work on HEI ignition systems. Any good faqs for one with?
thats a really good article, you know we all make this more complicated than it really is....once you have seen Lars do his magic to multiple cars you really start to realize this.
The 71 that I bought last month has a HEI with mechanical tach drive on it. I haven't been able to "dial in" the advance on it yet. This article may help. Thanks!
BTW, at what RPM should we be getting 36 degrees advance?

It all depends on the springs that have been installed inside the distributor. Shoot for 36 degrees all in by 2500-3000RPM.
