Default things to do afterinitial break-in:

O.K. I know to change the oil immediately after the 20-30 min. intial start up. Then again in about 100 miles and once more before you reach 500 miles.

What about valve adjustments (hydraulic cam/lifters) and the need to retork the intake manifold and/or head bolts?

Aside from fine tuning the carb. and timing, what else do you do?

Many thanks! Intial start-up is less than 8 hrs away!!!

Regards, mark

Changing the oil is a very good idea, though you don't need to change it 3 times during the first 500 miles. If you used some kind of pre-lube then yes change the oil after running the engine for about 10 minutes at operating temperature . But, changing it again after 100 miles, then again at 500 is over kill...do it if you want, but after the first change then you should just check the oil every day for a couple of weeks, but as long as it looks good then just change it after 3 months then every 6 months after that for standard service oil. I use racing oil which requires changing every 3 months.

I recommend against ANY retorquing. After torquing down a gasket you should replace the gasket with a new one if you loosen the bolts, so retorquing would go against the manufacturers recommendation.

I always like to adjust my valves when the engine is hot and running, and no I don't re-adjust them unless I hear some ticking.

Make sure your coolant is flowing before driving off for the first time.

Break in run 2000rpm or more, vary rpm, change oil/filter after breakin of 30+ mins. Follow old addage: Break em in fast, they run fast, break em in slow, they run slow. I will be breaking in a 427 hopefully next week. :D :yesnod:
