I'm still working on my rear differential project - when I dropped the rear spring, I discovered it only has 6-leaf's ??
Looking online at the parts stores, I only find 7-leaf and 9-leaf rear springs. Was there a reason to take a leaf out? and how would I know specifically which leaf is missing? How do I go about finding a replacement leaf/leafs? Anyone know if it should have been 7-leaf or 9-leaf?
Thanks to all who gave advice on how to jack my vette up. I used a combination of procedures. Rolled it up with the front wheels on my rhino stands. Put a floor jack and piece of 2x4 under the center rear spring bracket which covers the differential carrier.
Once elevated I put jack stands at the jack points forward of the rear wheels. Chocked the front wheels, and put a couple extra jacks along the frame (just in case)
Factory ORIGINAL Gymkhana spring IS only 6 leaves with a short spacer at the top. Aftermarket springs are 7 leaf. On a late production 78s there may be spacers in front of and in back of the spring where they bolt to the housing as they are 1/4" narrower than the standard spring. I have 3 with Gymkhana and are all 6 leaf.
