Will soon be taking my numbers matching engine out to save it for the future. Looking for tips on best way to preserve, store, or mummify my 350 until the day I resurrect it from suspended animation. Any ideas out there?
remove the plugs, squirt oil into the cylinders, replace the plugs. Remove the carb, place a thick piece of plastic over the intake, adjust the carb so that the throttle blades are completely closed, replace the carb. Remove the exhaust manifolds, cover the exhaust ports with thick plastic, replace the exhaust manifolds. Remove the valve covers, loosen all the rocker arm bolts so the spring is not compressed, replace the valve covers.
Put the motor on a stand or engine cradle and seal the whole motor with plastic sheet like the kind they wrap cartons for shipping or use a 55 gallon trash bag....
For my boat motor, I use an oil spray (http://www.corrosionx.com/) which clings to the metal, but wipes off easily. Found it in a boat supply store. Prevents rust/corrosion from getting a foothold.

Good luck
Would also fill the cylinders full of oil when plugs are out then replace. Would fill the whole crankcase full of oil so the bottom of the cylinders, crank and rods would be totally covered in oil. If the bottom end is full of oil there is no way any rust or corrison could ever get started. Will take a couple of gallons of oil, but you will have no problems this way for long term storage, houstonvett
