Hello everyone I am new to this forum and so so new to Corvettes. I have owned a few C3's but they were later in years and not the steel bumpered ones. I am in the market to buy a 68 to 72 and would like to keep it numbers matching for the investment and for my piece of mind.
I have run across a few cars that they claim are numbers matching but state the blocks have been decked. What is decking the block and why would someone do this? Is there another way to verify the numbers on the block from another casting etc etc?
Sorry if this is newb stuff to you guys, I just wanted an opinion from the experts and this seems like the best place on the web after reading through the prior posts.
Decking the block involves taking a cut across the top of the block where the cylinder heads go. This is to true up the block, make it flat or to raise the compression by bringing the pistons to the top of the bore. This removes the numbers punched into the deck.

If it has been decked there there arent any numbers left to match.
