I think I choose the "correct" headers and am placing an order for them. Now I'm trying to figure out the correct Fel Pro header gasket. There are three for a BBC, but only two sound "correct."
PN-1412 Large Round Port
PN-1411 Round Port
PN-1410 Square Port
I'm guessing I'd have round, and probably NOT the large one, as that is probably for hogged out heads for HP and racing.
I've got a GMPP HO454 with 118cc rectangle port heads, these are "high performance" (claimed by the GM literature) and cast iron with open combustion chambers and 2.19/1.88 valves.
Also, what side header bolts does a BBC take? 3/8" bolt by 3/4" or 1" long?
How close are the header bolts to the tubes? Should I opt for the 6 point 5/16" head ARP bolts or are the 3/8" 6point heads ok?
In my experience, the header gasket needs to match the header flange, not the head ports. And both the header and the gasket need to be the same size or bigger than the exhaust port... unless you don't like to go fast.

I've got two other "fast" cars so this is just for fun... But I don't like leaving power on the table, and this motor is rated with headers and I've got manifolds right now...
So the headers are 1.875" and they look round (from pics online) so I guess the normal Round Port 1.94" will work fine...
Unless when the headers show up and I remove the manifolds that my heads have HUGE exhaust ports...
recently installed headmans on my BB and the first i went to 6000 rpm the gaskets blew out on the drivers side. replaced with summit copper gaskets and all seems fine
