I Have a 1977 Corvette 350/4 speed 3.70 rear. I recently had the motor re-build so it now has (estimated between) somewhere between 350 to 400 HP..my question is under heavy acceleration the car will pull to the left..example: driving along at any speed and you punch it with the RPM's up the car immediatly pulls to the left. It did this when the engine was stock with 180 HP but not as bad..going down the highway it tracks perfect until you punch it it goes to the left. Car has new springs, control arm bushings, upper and lower ball joints, KYB Gas-adjust-shocks and tie rod ends inner and outer..the rear has new spring and bushings. Thanks for your help, Bill
Does it twist right when you decellerate quickly... ??
sal
No, its seems fine on decel it only does it when you accelerate hard only at first. Not that I make a habit of it but if you're cruising at 70 - 80 MPH and stomp on it its there but not as bad as lower speeds...I've taken this car over 120 MPH with no shake and no vibration tracking perfectly.. I did have the car checked out before I purchased. It was all stock still with the original exhaust and working 8 track player showing 63,000 miles. The body shop told me it had the right quarter replaced at some point and some work in the right front fender but the frame was straight..when I replaced the carpet, I found a human tooth in the drivers side seatbelt well (that kinda freaked me out). I've owned the car for about 5 years now and it has 66,800 miles on it.
Take a close look at the rear trailing arm front bushings and shims. That is most likely the culprit. Any slop in them will cause a toe change on accel/decell.

Trailing arms were checked when the alignmnet was done. I was advised that they were okay. I did at that time have to replace the two stabalizer bars the bushings were bad.

is the front of your car also rising when this happens???? the cars steer differently when the suspension is rising then they do when it is flat.....this is why some guys put heavy springs in to stop or dampen the upward rising
Hi, I experience the same phenomena, I have a 350 crate motor rated at about 390 hp. I have been told that it is "Torque Steer". The frame flexes when you jump on the gas, the front (left) wheel likes to lift up and you have to compensate for all of that twisting on
the frame.

Check them yourself. Use a flashlight and look at the bushings. They should be tight with no rubber squishing out of the sleeve. Alignment techs usually aren't familiar with C-3's.

Just overhauled my L-48 been wondering about the H.P. on it. What did you do to yours to gain that much HP?
I pulled the motor and dropped it off to a local builder (Danny Smith) told him what I was looking for HP wise. 2 weeks later I picked the motor up he told me it would produce between 350 to 400 HP I still have to get it on a dyno. Im running the stock exhaust and the stock Quadrajet I don't think it's making that kind of power with that set up but it's making a bunch more then the stock 180 HP. Really puts you in your seat. If you want I can give him a call Monday and get the info for you.
Here is what I did to mine. G.M. high preformance cam, flat top pistons, which changed my compression from 8to1 to 9to1,Z28 valve springs. Also bored it out 30 over. Just wondered how this compared to yours.I still have the Q-Jet, auto trans. Not sure of the rear end yet.

I know for sure it was bored 30 over and the heads are now 202. I had a lot of options on the cam because of the 4 speed. I just told the builder to put in what he feels will work best. I did put an edelbrock carb on after the rebuild it felt really responsive and would fry the tires from a dead stop. I opted to put the Quadrajet back on because it feels like you get more of a hit. The car is not as responsive with the Quadrajet but I must say it makes some awesome noise when you open those big secondaries up.
