Default 79 L82 electrical problem

I've been chasing this for sometime and am simply stumped. Here's what I have and don't have:

OK:
headlights
parking lights
brake lights
emergency flashers

NO:
backup lights
turn indicators

All the fuses appear to be good. Put a new flasher in with no change in the results. Since I have emergency flashers, I assume the flasher is operating correctly, but then I have no idea why the turn indicators do NOT work.

Any ideas, or hopefully similar experiences, are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dave

You've checked all the light bulbs with an ohm meter, they are all ok? The brake/parking bulbs have 2 filaments...but yes, weird that both turn filaments would be both blown, unless a new bulb is blowing from too much voltage when you click the turn sig...I'm just trying to localize a problem in my head...also, have you tested for voltage AT the bulb socket with the turn sigs going/backups on, and if so, how much voltage...

You didn't say what transmission you have. I have a 4spd and the switch on the transmission died so I didn't have backup lights. There is also a small linkage rod that goes to the switch which could have come off.

Your turn signals may mean a back turn signal switch.

Good luck.

I don't know about 78's but my 70 has two flashers. One if for the hazzard lights and the other is for the turn signals. I don't recall which flasher is which but one is on the fuse block and one is located behind the passengers side lower dash panel. You can see it looking up from the floor if you can get that low. Hopefully someone with a 78 will chime in and confirm this is true for a your car also.

Similar on the 78/79s. Both in the fuse panel. Top left flasher is for the emergency flashers, bottom right is the turn signals.
There is a ground to the frame at the rear for the backup lights, loose?
Mike

Dave, there are two flasher relays (cans) one for the 4 ways and one for the signals. They are both the same and interchangeable (for testing purposes if needed). As far as the back up lights go, it could be almost anything, maybe a bad back up light switch.
