on my 75 I guess it dont have the standard detent cable so I am looking for info on how it is to down shift (400 trans) with what I have been reading it has a control switch for the down shift. where is it and how dose it work, I am trying to get some of these things fixed while waiting on the motor to get built. Thanks
Look on top of your gas pedal under the dash, you should see a switch that gets triggered when you apply the throttle. The wire goes down to a switch on the side of tranmission.Thats how my73 was when i had my 400 in it.
Yup, what they said. But it's in such a P.I.A. place you''ll need a chiropracter when you're done.....and if you wear bifocals, I feel sorry for you, my friend. Mine would not self adjust like the books say it should, so I put a piece of thick oil line around the gas pedal rod to trigger the switch. Bubba, yes, but it works (mostly). Someday I'll get in there and try to replace or repair it officially.....
It also triggers the cowl flap, so with the key on but engine not running, you can flloor the gas pedal and you should hear a "click" from the cowl area as the flap opens. This indicates that at least the switch itself is working.
