I am planning on removing the body on my 72. I have seen some home made dollies for the bodies on the forum. Does anyone have plans or pictures? I would like build it before I remove the body.
Basically (2) 2 X 12 X 16, (2)2 X 6 X 8, (6) 2 X 4 X 4, (4) Steel Dollie wheels from Northen Tool, some bolts, nuts, lag screws.
Notch the 2 X 12 for the lower birdcage rails to sit on. Built supports basically just a couple 2 x 4 to support the front and rear end. Pretty easy to build.
I liked this design because it was simple, I was able to sit it up on jack stands and have full access to the whole underbody so I could clean and paint it.
I built the one designed by Nloan Adams but I had to modify it after I placed the body on it. In other words, it doesn't work well for 75's. I don't know the difference between your 72 and my 75 but I suspect you'll have the same problems I did.
I suggest you try the one B71 mentioned. It looks sturdy and similar to mine after I modified it. The only thing I did differently was that I attached the wooden frame to the top of a small utility trailer. It allows access to everything and makes it easy to move around. I plan on leaving it on the trailer when I paint it. That way it's easy to take it to the paint shop.
