im sure you guys are gonna think this is stupid, but its a solution to emissions inspection problems.. i forget what diameter hooker sidepipes are... is it 3 or 4? i found 2 types of converters with 3 and 4 inch outer diameters. dynatech powercat and magnaflow 50000 series...
if there was some way to put a catalytic converter IN both sidepipes, it would be a legal way to run sidepipes in states that requrie cats (I have a 75, and both vermont and new york require a cat if one was originally installed on the vehicle, as well as many other states, im sure). I have a feeling that using one of these would hurt horsepower a bit... but at least its an option if your state is run by tree huggers .... feel free to comment
That's an intriguing idea. One potential problem might be the high heat created by the converter causing the chrome to peel and/or discolor. The stainless sidepipes would probably work better but they might get a bluing discoloration like you see on headers.
The real issue is that it is illegal to change the original catalytic converter set up (you cant start with one and get two) and For the the inspection squads, all converters must be CARB approved, or they will fail you for the visual. And you should also read the bottom of the page where it gives out a disclaimer "NOTE: These products are intended for racing and off-road applications. Not legal for sale or use in the state of California, nor in states which have adopted California emission standards. "

I think the point of sidepipes is to give the finger to emissions, not meet them. The only legal way to do sidepipes is to register as a non-daily driver type registration (antique/historical/collector). This way there is no emission requirement.
my mechanic buddy in vermont says he will pass me as long as i have cats, and this is going to be a daily driver. im going to try this out with the magnaflow 50000 series cats. even if i take them out right after inspection, it will at least pass me.
