I posted about this in another thread, but it is a separate issue.
I tried to tune my carb/ dist again today with little luck. I moved the base timing up to 16 degrees (sounds like it wants even more) and I rev the engine to see if I hear detonation and now the engine stumbles at 3K rpm. It feels like my rev limiter is set at 3K rpm and when it hits 3K rpm the tachometer freaks out and jumps to 0 rpm for a second. What's going on? I back the timing off to 14, then 12 degrees and I have the same problem.
Is this a misfiring problem? If so what causes it?
I hate messing around with tuning, I'd rather pull a trans or an engine any day of the week.
Have had this problem on a car fitted with an MSD Pro Billet Distributor, drove me nuts, blaming the Distributor, then found that it was the MSD Coil mounted horizontally incorrectly, it has an oil filling so must be mounted vertically.
We went thru this recently with another member...he had a light show going on under the hood in the dark....turned out after putting on copper core wires, the sparking and misfire went away....this would be my suggestion...
