I need to mount boost, fuel pressure and A/F guages and the center console does not really work visually. Has anyone out there modified a stock pillar trim piece to accept gauges? My thought is that if I bought an F-body(or similar) pillar pod, I could cut off the gauge hoods and mount them on a stock C-3 trim piece.
Does any one know what type of adhesive would work on the trim's plastic? Any input is appreciate.
Eastwood Company sells a couple of items which might help you. They sell a "welder" for plastic as well as plastic repair kits you could use to bond the pods to your pillar cover.
I never tried the plastic welder Monty referred to, but I usually use a little fiberglass resin. Just be careful on what you're using it on and how much you use so it doesn't melt the whole piece.
I would rivet a thin piece of sheet metal to the surface and then have your way with it. That's what I did with my center console. I used plexiglas for my tach and speedo, just a thought.
I've seen what was described as a "generic" pod on eBay that is (alledgedly) flexible and trimable enough to be used on multiple applications (fits over your existing A-piller).
check jc whitney and co in chicago. i believe they sell a generic gauge pod you can probably adapt. additionally, you can check out moss motors on the web as they have a variety of pods one of which might be very usable to adapt.
take a pillar pod and sort of heat it up with a heat gun and mold it in...cut off excess if needed to...... also, check out the audio section on this forum and ask there...some of the guys there do that type of modding for radio bezels/etc.......
