Just saw a portion of a show on TV (motor week) about the use of "CR12" instead of R12 or R134. Its supposed to be much better than the R134 coolant and uses the existing A.C. system on the car. Anybody here of this?
I've heard of it. It's not an "EPA approved" refrigerant. That doesn't mean it's illegal, but it does mean most shops won't touch your system because they can't mix CR12 in their recycling/recovery equipment.
Go with R134a. You can convert from R12 without replacing anything other than the receiver/dryer and o-rings. Not a big deal. And the hype about R134a not being a good refrigerant is BS. It works fine if done right.
Update: Its FR12 not CR12 as I had earlier stated and also called Frigic.
Still looking for more info but I found it on "Goss's Garage on the "motor Week" web site.
