Since I had to pull the T5 and install a new rear crankshaft seal, I thought it would be a good time to replace the oil pump with a melling high volume one with extended pickup and steel sleeve and shaft for the pump drive. I used a felpro single piece gasket, grade eight moroso studs and a seven quart oil pan. I still need a couple quarts of oil to finish filling it; I only had six quarts in the garage.
Bernie,
Looks like you have got the case of "while I'm at it". I gotta tell ya, I came done with it this winter too. I called the doctor and he said there were no shots or pills for this. He told me the only way to get over it is to ride it out until spring. Until then try to patient, don't over spend, and make sure (most importantly) make sure to keep the wife happy.

You will now have to pick up 2-5 quart jugs of oil to do an oil change. But on the bright side of it, the next oil change will only cost 1 jug. You have been very busy this winter. Spring is just around the corner if this white stuff will just get out of here.
Had a deeper t-sump pan that looked like that ... mine was lower than stock ... less ground clearance ... watch out for bumps & parking lot ingress-egress etc.
Bernie are you sure that block of wood is strong enough?? The block doesn't allow you to tip the motor down for installing the bellhousing. If you drop the motor until the fan touches the shrowd or the distributor touches the firewall you can get at the upper bellhousing bolts with an extension and ratchet making life alot easier.
Nice looking pan. When oil is on sale at Cosco I buy up to 200 litres. It doesn't go bad and I use it up in a few years but at least the price was good.
I am worried that the block of wood might settle before I get the T5 back in! The pan is lower right now than when I get the T5 installed but I will lower the engine a little more when I install the bellhousing. I will spend most of today measuring and cutting the bearing retainer to the correct length. Could possibly have it in by this evening. Eddie, you are right, Spring is soooo close. I don't think I'm going to have time to install the new cam, lifters, timing chain & gears, and new intake before I start driving it again. I may save those until I find a 400 cube engine and rebuild it and just swap motors. I'm kinda glad that snow is on the ground; I don't feel so bad that it isn't driveable yet!

The pans like Bernie's pictured typically about an inch to inch & a half lower than OE.
For future reference ... a better choice may be a circle track/road race "champ-style" pan ... typically about 7" deep w/"wings" ... typically holds about 8 qts WITH filter ... good brands: CV products, Champ, Canton, Moroso run $225 & up. Asian copies on ebay under $100.
This pan is an inch lower than stock. It has the same deminisions of the Moroso pan carguy4sure installed. It holds 8 quarts with the large filter which also fits nicely. Of course the pump is completely submersed in oil and the extended pickup is a little over 1/4 inch above the bottom of the pan. Hopefully this will allow the engine to run a little cooler on the bottom end. A future mod will be to install a remote oil filter in the nose so cooling air will be blowing across it and also to keep from raising the car to change the oil and filter.
