Pretty straightforward. Use a good pitman arm puller, cheap ones can snap before the arm comes off. Also note the input shaft markings to set up the steering properly when reassembling.

And people think I'm crazy for pulling the steering column to replace the rag joint.

Also do not beat on the upper rag joint flange as it will drive the cloumn up and break the plastic piece inside. If you have manual steering look at the ball stud when you pull the pitman arm off. These are often overlooked and do wear. The PS cars use the CV but look at that too.
When replacing the rag joint you want it flat not flexed.

When I upgraded the old system in my '77 to rack and pinion, I pulled the whole steering system out as one piece from rag-joint down to the tie rods. In order to get the steering box out I just took the clutch linkage out and slid it backwards then down.
