i have one of these.....does yours have a fuel pump lobe???? and does it have the hole inthe timing chain cover for the crank sensor??? you also need to see if the vortec heads have the exhaust inserts in them that blocks the flow, to some extent.

No fuel pump lobe. Have to use electric pump.
Does have a timing sensor.
No insert for exhaust(Vortec heads sura are different)
If I'm correct, these heads are suppose to flow very well, right??

the vortec heads flow quite well the trick is to determine what part number they are....not the casting number.....you can't tell the part number from any casting numbers only from the application it was used on.....the truck vortecs for instance had hardened exhaust inserts stuck into them to keep the valves from burning and this effected there flow compared to other vortec heads. but yes the vortec heads are good heads and some vortecs are better then others. but you can't tell from the casting numbers the better ones from the others.

This may be a dumb question, but is the part number on the heads anywhere so I can try to search for which ones are better than others?
