Default grease for leaf spring

I just finished cleaning up and painting the leafs in my leaf spring. It's ready to be reassembled, but I don't know what type of grease/oil, if any to use. Any suggestions?

You don't use grease or oil. There are leaf inserts that go between each layer as you put it back together. The inserts are a poly like material and control the friction between the leaves of the spring. You can buy them as a set from any Corvette parts dealer like Ecklers, etc.

I use to grease my springs. It sure makes a mess but the ride is smooth. The proper way is like Steves 77vette said.
Crysler greased their springs and wrapped them in a plastic wrap.

I just took my spring apart and the liners were really thin metal pieces. What kind of liners came from the factory?

I was kinda wondering that myself. My original spring (I think it's original) had liners which were hard, thin plastic strips (probably like steves77 vette described). The originals had large holes worn in them in places. The newer one I just painted has rubber-like strips...very soft and grippy. I can't imagine the rubber ones sliding very well when the spring flexes without some kind of grease, so I might put some on anyway even if it dosen't need it...can't hurt, right?

I don't know what kind of rubber that is, but petroleum products will attack certain types of rubber. If you want to grease it use a silicon grease just in case.

Some late C3 springs came with zinc/tin like shims between the leaves. They can bunch up a bit over the miles.

I used to have the web address for a company that manufacturers that type of stuff but I imagine the minimum quantity would be high.

Default Greased Leaf Spring

I Disassembled My Leaf Spring And Greased The Leafs And Plastic Shims With Chassis Grease Then Pulled A Bicycle Inner Tube Over Each Side. After Doing This The Spring Seams Smoother. I Beleive The Tube Was A 3x20 Inch Tube I Bought At Walmart. I Have A Picture But I Cant Fugure Out How To Post It. The Tube Fits Over The Pack Purfectly. I Would Post A Picture If Someone Would Give Me Directions. Anyway I Beleive It Is Worth The Effort.
