Default Oval port intake question.

Does anyone have a theory as to why the ports are different sizes on Big Block oval port intakes? Even the factory manifolds have different port sizing. My guess is that this is a way to compensate for different runner lengths.

No one wants to take a guess, even a WAG (wild as*ed guess)? Would port matching an intake with asymmetrical port sizing be detrimental the engine?

Somebody mentioned in another thread it could be done to help equalize fuel distribution to all cylinders. If that is the case, changing the size of the ports could negatively affect fuel distribution.

No secret here. The different port sizes are to fix air/fuel distribution issues on the big-blocks. The old power books even talk about 4 different jet sizes in the carb to help equalize mixture. Remember the big-block has short and long intake runners.
