Lenco transmission

Lenco transmission
Just bought the new issue of super chevy and saw something about the lenco transmission....and I must say I fell in love. Does anyone ever tried one? how does it feel? I can't stand automatic trannies and manual isn't really good in drag racing which I want to do more and more. So it seems to fit my needs.
Only thing I was wondering now...does it fit in a vette? '78 to be precise. Is it as good as they say? Can someone live with it in a daily driver car?
EDIT: Oh forgot...for people that don't know what I'm talking about go see it for yourself at http://www.lencoracing.com

Re: Lenco transmission (gkull)
No no...they made a street one. :D Thats what they review in super chevy...its the ST1200. Should be cheaper. In what car was it installed when you tried one? And how did it feel? did you say: "This is how a tranny should be" ?

Hehehe thats why I'm worrying...I will have a 500+ hp engine. and like I said will be doing more drag racing....but don't want to lose the street drivability.

Re: Lenco transmission (gkull)
Dunno....I was impressed by a 600hp '80 vette a few weeks ago. He was going against those drag monsters that keep their front wheels off the ground for 3secs and still won! And the funniest part is that the front springs of the vette didn't even strech! I don't want to make a drag only car....and I definitly don't want 2 cars...besides who would want anything else than a vette? :D I'm aiming for a 540ci block fuel injected with a nitrous kit for the track. Might get me in the 700-800hp. Thats as far as I want to go. I'll kick serious butt on the track and still be able to drive it home. So before reading that article, I was going to get the ROD from richmond.....but now I ain't sure about it....this tranny seems darn fine to me.
EDIT: dang censorship....

Looks a little too lengthy for a 'vette. Exposed shift rods would be a problem, too. Besides, why is it any quicker to move your hand to 5 different shifters, rather than keep it on one? :chevy

Check Jericoperformance.com. Most of their gear boxes are built for hard core drag racing, but they have a new road racing 5-speed that looks interesting.

Re: Lenco transmission (74vetteman)
Jerico tells me their unit is good for 1,000HP. The reason I didn't go with it is because the best gear ratio they can get you is 1:1 for final gear. It's also about $6,000. I looked at the Lenco 5 speed as well, but to use it I would have to tear up the center console for all the rails. Forget about the stock look if you use one. It's also a real pain around town. Trying to shift into reverse is a headache....
