My 82 gasps when I quickly accelerate
Long and short of it. If your going to do it you may as well us the 85 pump. Same efford to change it.

My question is, will the increased pressure from the '85 pump damage the pressure regulator on the TBI over time?
The way I understand this, you only need the install the new '85 FP and no other modifications to your '82 system are required, is that right?
I've never replaced anything this major myself on the Vette, but from the research I've done it looks pretty straight forward. I will remember to disconnect the battery!!
Wish me luck
This forum http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/ has all you need to know about the 85 pump. I had similar questions. My understanding is the 85 will not cause any damage to the TBI regulator. Only the driverside TBI has a regulator.
Its not so much the added pressure that is the issue when considering the 85 pump its the lack of pressure in the 82 pump. They were know to be problematic and the cause of hesitation and poor response.
Everyone over at the crossfire forum indicates a huge performance improvement with the 85 pump. Not in horsepower but in smoothness, response time etc. Anyway they convinced me and I have no regrets.
FWIW I bought my pump from GM its a Delco and was easy to install.

Thanks for the info. I just looked at the tech area of the crossfire forums and the excellent step by step guide. After reading the forums there for a bit I feel pretty confident about the switch.
I just ordered a Delco '85 FP
As a side note, it amazes me that they can have electrical connections inside the gas tank and the thing not explode!
