Default ***HELP*** MUST READ

I had the worst day today. First.. My living room almost caught fire then my c3 electrical system burns up!!

We had a really bad storm go though my area and I told my roommate to unplug everything!!! He unplugged the power but not the cable!!!! I get the call during the storm (i wasn't at home) and he says that my VCR is on fire and that he put it out just in time. I asked him if he unplugged everything he said yes and I said did you unplug the cable and the phones? He said no!!.. So, I have a melted VCR, a cable modem that doesn't work and a computer that doesn't work either. TV shows funny colors and who knows what else is burned up. I only owned the VCR.. The other stuff was his.

Now to the car. I was over at my dad’s house working on my car and I was messing with the dome light with a another light in my right hand. I went to unplug the dome bulb when I grounded out the light with the wall powered light in my hand. I had the light in my hand because I was trying to see up inside the t-top interior piece. NOW FOR THE BAD NEWS!

The interior lights went dead right away.. "s-h-i-t" so I thought I blew a fuse.. WRONG.. At first I couldn't find the fuse and I have a wiring diagram and it shows the fuse panel. Well see the fuse for the lights and I am looking and I can't seem to find the 20 amp fuse. ALL I SEE IS 30 amp. I yelled s-h-i-t!!!! I pulled the 30 amp and it was burnt but NOT BROKEN!!! I can't believe someone would put a 30 amp in place of a 20 amp. Also the dumb A-s-s put a 75 amp fuse in place of a 5 amp fuse. :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad I am so pissed.

Now my interior lights won't come one when the doors are open but they work if I move the light switch to the left (switch to control the head lights)

Also If I start my car the loud tone to remind you to fasten your safty belts doesn't turn off!!!! IT KEEPS going and going. I am thinking the courtesy delay timer burned up and I have no idea where the timer is located. Does that same timer control how long the fasten seat belt tone should go??? If not what does??? I can find anything about it on the wiring diagram.

Can someone PLEASE tell me where the timer is and what it looks like? I want to pull it and see if the TONE stops and to replace it. I did pull the black box that emits the tone but that doesn’t really fix my problem.

I purchased the car 2 weeks ago and never thought to make sure the right fuses are in place.

thanks

Robert

Are you sure the fuse was "burnt but not broken". Almost every fuse I have ever seen that looks burnt is a bad fuse, even if looks intact. The only real way to tell is to check the fuse with a ohmeter or just to replace it.

Your courtesy light delay box should be behind your glove compartment (usually on the right side). Mine was a little orange box. However, this delay module has nothing to do with your seat belt warning buzzer. There is a way to by-pass the courtesy delay so that the lights still come on when you open your doors. Drop me an e-mail if you want to know how to do this at bluevette@gci.net. Good luck.

The fuse still works. tested. If you look at the fuse the element is black/brown but it still works.

everything was fine before that. Something got zapped.

not good.
:cry

WEll I pulled the orange box and did the white wire trick. the interior lights work now with the door open but the damn buzzing won't stop when I turn the car on.

I DON't think its the switch in the column becuase if I put key in, open door buzz starts. if I close door buzz stops. If car is off and lights on buzz starts.. if lights are off and doors are closed put key in... no buzz. turn key choke light comes on buzz STARTS turn on more click car starts and keeps buzzing. and never stops.

I think it has to be what controls how long to sound the seat belt buzz.

HELP.. any suggestions???
