Default Engine replacement

its time to drop the engine back in the 81. I have all the radiator, core support, condensor and such removed....will the tranny and engine go back in together very easily, or is it just better to install them seperate?

I always prefer to put them in together, but you do have to get the car high enough, and its very nice if you have an engine levelor for you hoist, otherwise you need a friend to help

the front, so that as you dip the engine tranny combo into place there is room to maneuver.

Jack up the front and have a floor jack ready for the tail of the trans. I did it with my T56 trans which is about the same size if not bigger than an auto. Here is a pic just as it went in. I did not use a leveler, but it would help.

I removed and installed my engine & trans all as one unit - just remove the top bolts and loosen the bottom bolts of the radiator core support and tilt it forward and remove one of the tires to allow the lift to come in from an angle - my engine lift could not reach over the middle of the nose

if i should do them as two units, will the engine mounts support the engine as its hangin there? Is it safe to leave it supported by only the mounts?

Not good to leave it hanging. Put something under the rear of the engine until you get the tranny in place.

I just recently picked up a load leveler at harbor freight for about $25 ...nice to just turn a small crank and change the angle on the load....

I didn't raise the rear and actually had to lower the front because I was coming in from the side with the hoist.
