Default Been A While...

I'm still working on changing over from 56K to Cable so I'm on my dad's computer until I get mine back. I got two more items for my big block rebuild:

Edelbrock Torker II Intake
Big Block Hooker Header Side Pipes (Black)

I purchased both used, and got a great deal on them. I went with the black side pipes because chrome is really tough to keep clean and with headers I just know they'll turn blue and fade on me. I'm still looking for another 454 block, but I have plenty of time before I start the rebuild.

I have a couple stories to tell you. If you recall there is a '96 blue Mustang around my area that has been giving me problems. It was discovered down at the 1/4 mile track that he was running NOS. The funny thing is that his engine and car have 25,000 original miles on them and his engine is cooked. I've seen him drive by my house a couple of times....in his S10 pickup. He told me that he was getting a 351 to put in it. I then told him that I was getting a big block....he now has a 514ci big block sitting in his garage. I told him that he's going to twist that car in half seeing as how that is a full-out drag motor. He doesn't believe me so I guess he's gonna find out the hard way. BTW he has no plans of using sub-frame connectors...

My other buddy is building a 350 for his S10. He's going with a 292 duration solid lifter cam that runs all the way to 7000RPMs. I asked him if he was going with forged internals and he said no (cast crank, rods & hyperuetectic pistons). I then asked him how high he was planning on revving it and he said 6800RPMs  . What do you guys think? Personally I'm not sure if the engine can handle those revs. He's a good buddy of mine and I don't want to see him blow the engine.

So have I missed anything during my absense? I hope everyone is well.

Sounds like you got all the boys fired up in PA. I have enjoyed following all your post. Sounds a lot like some of the stuff I have gone through. Good luck on the big block to be. I know someone who has a couple of them and may sell one if you want me to ask.

The rods and rod bolts will be the weak link. This is where he needs to use the "good" stuff. The pistons should be good for 7000 with no problem. As far as the crank goes, I guess it depends on a few things like weight of car, how well it has been balanced, ect..... I have been running a cast crank in my streetrod for many years. This motor turns 7800 and has held up just fine over the years. I can't say that I would want to hold it at that RPM for an extended period of time, but for short bursts..... No problem.
