Default Muffler Recommendations

Looking to renew the mufflers on a 76,have real duals with no cats. now and
very mild sounding mufflers.{ maremont?} Anyone know of a replacement
that has a nice performance sound without being too loud? Present system
hides the sound of the cam too much. Thanks.

Haven't gotten them yet but I'm going to put a pair of Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 series on mine next month. (This month was tires) I love loud exhaust. I think the Delta Flow 50 series would be a good choice if you want something with a milder interior resonance. Another muffler I've heard great things about on the forum is the Magnaflows. Someone should respond with more info on the Magnaflows.

Matt

Thanks Matt. I have read good things regarding magnaflows but I never
heard them. Iam also considering Ravens, but haven't heard them either.
That is my dilemma. Want to install something that sounds nasty but not
overly loud.

I have the MagnaFlows on mine with a 2-1-2 with single hi-flow CC. I took mine to a muffler shop and they let me listen to Flowmasters and Magnaflows (that was a really nice thing to be able to do).

The Flowmasters (I think they were 40s) sounded nice. I opted for the MagnaFlows which if I had to put a number on it were 25% or more quieter than the 40s.

I think I could have lived with the louder exhaust, but, if you have a wide open system, the Magnaflows might be more tolerable on the road. Mine are loudest upon acceleration from a stop and cruising below 35 MPH. Once you get up to speed they're relatively quiet (until above 60 MPH). BUT, they don't have the kick foot sound I'd like at WOT that I would have liked.

Explaining sound is kind of vague; I hope this helps.

I've got to agree with Matt. I've got the stock mufflers on now, but plan to go with the Series 40 Flomasters. I thought about the Delta Flow 40s, but I think they may sound a little more tame then I'm looking for.

I've been talking to a reliable Vette mechanic for a while about it. He's put different exhaust systems on hundreds of Vettes and he says with a small block, Flomaster Series 40s sound the best. It's a matter of opinion, but I've had 40s on a older Camaro before and loved the sound!:D

I got Delta50s on my BB with true dual 2 1/2". Sounds great. You can still talk with the passenger, but only at cruise. At WOT- BEWARE :D

I have the MagnaFlow Stainless Steel mufflers and I really like the sound. Be warned if you
have true duals and no cat then you might get dirty looks from the neighbours. I think they
are less expensive than the others too.

I am using the Maganflow aluminized mufflers, and they sound great. I've been having them on for about 4 years. I am very pleased. I upgraded to 2.5" pipes with headers when I got the new mufflers..big performance gains!
