Here is a pic of some random bracket (bought by Corvette Express from "some dealership in Texas", probably SDPC) back in '98ish?
It was mounted originally with 5 or 6 washers between the bellhousing and the bracket, pushing the bellhousing bolts way out and touching/cracking the firewall.
When I recently redid it, I took the bracket to a bench grinder and hand grinder and made it fit directly up. Then had to bend it a bit, and finally found a "jam" nut that would fit on the back of the ball stud (instead of a normal size thickness nut) and ground down the back of the ball stud threads. It is VERY close to my block. Then I painted it and got it all installed.
Without the grinding of the ball stud threads and the jam nut the Z-bar wouldn't fit between there and the framerail bracket, and when I did get it in there it was so tight it wouldn't move.
When I built the sb400 for my car I knew to look for no ball stud hole so I drilled and tapped the boss on the stand. Much easier. I have heard many stories of people having prob's with the bracket. A word of caution. Try to get the hole drilled straighter that I did. :o

I too found the missing hole on my ZZ4 engine while it was on the stand... The Boss is there.... just not drilled. It only took about 1/2 hour to drill & tap it on the engine stand.
