surge tank overflow question please help
bought a coolant tester,opened the surge tank,level was low,added water,started motor to circulate,re tested.Went for ride and had steam and coolant coming from overflow hose.Didnt fill over half.Could it be because maybe I didnt have the vent cap on correct.Also when i bought the car it ran hot around town.Changed tstat and it ran cool for a couple of months.Now its running hot again.any ideas?

Check the thermostat or just by a new one. They are cheap and install easily. Get that out of the way, and if it is still up and down, you may want to pull the radiator and have it professionally flushed. If there are still problems you might have a clogged gallery in your block. For obvious reasons, that is the last thing you should check.
