Default Oh Oh

Put my 69 up on jack stands yesterday to confirm what I had for rear gears and I noticed the gap at the top of the door increased from 1/8" to 1/4". This was on the back side. Do I have a problem or is this normal ? The other side didn't move noticably.

Corvette bodies are known to flex and be very resilient to flexing and torque and there are many different people who will tell you many different things on how to properly jack up a Corvette.

Some say leave the doors closed when jacking up your ride and others say leave them open with the t-tops out. Im not sure if there is a definitive answer and everyone has their own opinions.

I leave my doors open and top down when jacking.

If you lower your car and put it back on all 4's and the gaps are still there and off you might have a problem. If your gaps return to normal I think you would be in the clear.

Others might also advise you to check your birdcage/frame/other areas of support for cracks or broken welds on the sagging side but I know nothing about this and couldn’t give you any good advice.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks LittleJake

I have all the hardware off of and out of my doors right now,so no support. When I sat it back down it all went back into place though, so I am going with alls good. It seems like I'm always waiting for the next nasty surprise, there have been lots of them.

Don't take this the wrong way but my advice would be to change the name on the thread in order to draw some attention to your problem. With all the nonsense threads these days, guys who can help you may not check out "Oh Oh".

I found out the hard way how fragile the glass tops are, not when jacking, but if someone else with frame trouble cracked a t-top when jacking, then I can see how that rumor could get started.

I would err on the catious side with this. The frame on any of our cars is sturdy enough to allow jacking without a .25" movement. I am betting you have something rusted out somewhere. Good luck.

Mine does this also. I leave the doors in whatever position they were in before I jacked the car.
