Motor Men--Need Help!!!!!
Last year I bought a '74 L-82 4 speed. Started noticing that after it idled and I goosed the throttle I would see
a cloud of blue smoke. I don't get the smoke when I first start it so I kind of ruled out valves seals. Tryed
going down a steep hill and then flooring it at the bottom--no smoke. Now it is trailing smoke when I first start
off. Yesterday I took a compression test. All cylinders were between 130 and 140. The front 2 plugs on each
side were oil soaked. The back 2 plugs on each side were dry. What can this be?? Leaking intake gasket?

to check the intake gaskets, put a vacuum gauge on the dipstick and seal off the valve covers. if it pulls a vacuum at fast idle then the gaskets are bad.
but first re-torque the intake bolts.

I performed the vacuum test and no vacuum was indicated.
I guess the oil must be going past the rings.
Just seems strange that the oil rings are bad on the front (4) cylinders and not the rear cylinders.
