Default Intake Manifold Question

What aluminum intake manifold could I put on my bone stock 1971 350/270 that wouldn't cause clearance problems with the original Quadrajet and dual-snorkel air cleaner installed? I am not looking for a big horsepower increase, just better appearance as the orginal manifold has discolored due to the heat channel through the center of the manifold which looks terrible. Thanks!

I was told I could run the 2101 Performer or the Edelbrock EPS without problems. Don’t go on my say though; let some of the more knowledgeable guys give you their opinions first.

Good luck!

The Torker II is one of the lowest profile manifolds.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money and are satisfied with your current setup performance wise. pull the intake manifold clean it up repaint it and when you re-install it use an intake block off gasket to block the heat riser passage. old hot rodder trick. bythe way i think most of the aftermarket does not have the heat riser function. its to heat under the carb when cold to make the engine run smoother when cold start up.

MY1971 base sbc hood is low ... 3 Al intakes: Edelbrock Performer P/N 2101, Weiand Action Plus P/N 8004, Professional Products Cyclone P/N 52001. I have a good used (but dirty) Edelbrock Torker II P/N 5001 you can get CHEAP ... but that one has a Squarebore carb flange ... not the Spreadbore flange you need for Qjet.

I have manifold #14007378. This is listed for the '79 L82 and it is aluminum. I also have manifold #14057053. It is listed for '78 to '85 305 and 350 truck and passenger car and it is aluminum. At least a welding magnet won't stick to either one.

Just visually comparing the ports on these they appear identical.

I ran an Edel. Performer, stock Q-jet, and stock snorkel air cleaner on my '76 before I upgraded.

I replaced the stock manifold on my 79 which was cast iron and weighted a ton w/the Eldebrook proformance.

Default Swapmeets are best buys.

I find plenty of Alum intakes on '70's camaros at the "Pick your own Parts" boneyards - usually <$20.
But at large swapmeets i have better luck as the intakes are already removed and can bargin for price. Now have plenty of Alum intakes (too many really) to play with and modify - 2 happen to be from late '70's vettes.

Happy hunting. cardo0
